5 Movies About Teens #DirectedByWomen
I started doing this categorized List of 5 Movies thing where I showcase movies that were directed by women and that I have actually seen. It all started during the Directed By Women Worldwide Viewing Party in September, and it was pretty fun, so I've continued doing it from time to time.
It's a bit off-topic from my normal fare, ya know, being that it's not specifically about lady-gasms or anything like that, but I think it fits the blog because
1. this blog is also about indie movie-making, and
2. this blog is partially about getting the female perspective of sexuality into our media. So, to me, supporting female voices in our media means we're creating more room for female voices to speak on all types of things, which sometimes will be sex, orgasms, and sexuality. You can find all my 5-movie lists HERE.
So, this is my 5 MOVIES ABOUT TEENS! That's right, these movies are about teenagers - some drama, some comedy, some in between. So get a snack, a beverage, and enjoy these varied looks into the youth.
1 Slumdog Millionaire - This was directed by Danny Boyle and Loveleen Tandan. I saw this in the theater back when it came out in 2008. I loved it. It's a damn good movie, and if you haven't seen it you definitely should.
2 The Diary of a Teenage Girl - This was directed by Marielle Heller. Charlie and I actually took our oldest niece to see this. She loved it. We loved it. It's a fabulous movie. WATCH. IT. I wrote an SSL Review of it the very next day, and I'm happy to say it got a 5 outta 5 vulva rating.
3 The Brady Bunch Movie This was directed by Betty Thomas. I saw a lot of Brady Bunch as a kid because it was syndicated and came on shortly after i got home from school, so at 15, I was pretty psyched to go watch the Brady Bunch movie, and as I recall I thoroughly enjoyed it's silly BB style. I haven't seen it since then, but if it showed up on TV, I'd definitely stop.
4 John Tucker Must Die - This was also directed by Betty Thomas. I have seen pieces of this movie many times, and I think that I've seen it all, and most of it in one sitting. For some reason, it was always on at Charlie's parents house when I went there during a particular time. I think maybe his little sister was watching it or something. Anyway, I always got right into it when it came on. I recall it being a fun teen comedy that, again, I would keep on if it popped up on TV some Saturday afternoon.
5 Girlhood - This movie was directed by Celine Sciamma. I watched this on my own one Saturday night after I found it on Netflix. I thought it was a lovely and important movie. I was glad I stumbled upon it, and I'm sure you will be glad you saw it too.

5 Movies About Someone Real #DirectedByWomen
I started doing this categorized List of 5 movies thing where I showcase movies that were directed by women and that I have actually seen. It all started during the Directed By Women Worldwide Viewing Party in September, and it was pretty fun, so I've continued doing it from time to time.
It's a bit off-topic from my normal fare, ya know, not usually about lady-gasms or anything like that, but I think it fits the blog because
1. this blog is also about indie movie-making, and
2. this blog is partially about getting the female perspective of sexuality into our media. So, this is my 5 MOVIES ABOUT REAL PEOPLE LIST! That's right, these movies are about real people, so get a snack, a beverage, your lap-top to fact check aspects of these people's lives as you watch, and enjoy the show.
1 I Shot Andy Warhol - This was directed by Mary Harron. I saw this probably a couple years after it came out...probably on a VHS I rented from the Blockbuster on East Washington Street. To be real honest, I don't remember it that well, but I remember thinking it was cool and interesting. You just might think that too.
2 Monster - This was directed by Patti Jenkins. I saw this at the movies when it came out, but the thing is, I had just seen the documentary of the main character's life, and I really really liked it (I often have a hard time with a fiction version after I've seen a doc on the same thing). so, I was probably less enthused about this than someone who never saw the documentary, but it's a good movie, and Charlize Theron did win an Oscar for it!
3 Wig'd Out - This was directed by a local gal by the name of Kate Chaplin. I saw this at the Indy premiere at a packed Brewhouse Theater. Good music, fun teen antics, and a spunky young lady with alopicia? Oh yeah, it had it all. It was a fun time and the beer was good too!
4 Private Parts - This was directed by Betty Thomas. I think I saw this on video too. I hadn't had much thought either way about Howard Stern before the movie. I knew about him, of course, but he wasn't on the radio or anything in my area. I remember enjoying this movie, but don't know if I can remember much about his life anymore....I guess it was close to 20 years ago, huh??
5 American Splendor - This was directed by Shari Springer Berman and Robert Pulcini. I thought this was a really good movie. I hadn't really known anything about Harvey Pekar going into it. It's been over a decade and a lot of the details are gone, but I remember thinking the style and the way the story was woven together was pretty awesome. It should definitely be on your watch list.

5 Little Kid Movies #DirectedByWomen
I started doing this categorized List of 5 movies thing where I showcase movies that were directed by women and that I have actually seen. It all started during the Directed By Women Worldwide Viewing Party in September, and it was pretty fun, so I've continued doing it from time to time.

So, this is my Movies For Little Kids List - for if you have a really little kid -that wants to watch movies.
1 Shrek - This was directed by Andrew Adamson and Vicky Jenson. I very much enjoyed this movie, which isn't a surprise. It was widely loved when it came out. We took some group of nieces and nephews to see it at the theater back in the day, and I can recall that we all had ourselves some good laughs and the message ain't so bad neither.
2 Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel - This was directed by Betty Thomas, who I now realize has directed quite a bit of movies that I like and that you will now see on future lists. I saw this with 2 of my sister's kids, and I don't remember it specifically. I may have made dinner during part of it, I'm not sure, but I don't remember hating it, and that's pretty good for a young kid's movie.
3 Dr. Dolittle - This was again directed by Betty Thomas. First off, I really thought that would have been spelled with two O's not one, but whatever. I can't remember a lot from this. Again, I saw it on TV with some nieces and nephews, and I may have been doing other things. I just don't know. But it's got talking animals, I believe, and that's always fun.
4 Brave - This was directed by Mark Andrews, Brenda Chapman, and Steve Purcell. I took 4 nieces and nephews to see this in the theater (the dollar theater, actually, that has since closed down and I'm devastatingly sad about it), and we all enjoyed it. It's a solid pick for the family.
5 Parent Trap - This is directed by Nancy Meyers. It's, of course, a remake of an old Disney movie, just like Dr. Dolittle is, but I like this version. It's definitely a formulaic kids movie, but it's the kind of movie I might watch if it's on while I'm doing other things on a Saturday...in fact, I think that's how I saw it originally.
